ABOUT STEMSPARK

Making STEM exciting, creative, and accessible.

STEMSpark is a community-focused STEM education initiative created to introduce elementary students to coding, engineering, robotics, science experiments, and collaborative problem-solving.

Instead of simply explaining STEM concepts, STEMSpark allows students to experience them. Students learn by building, questioning, testing ideas, making mistakes, improving their designs, and working together.

The program especially aims to make STEM opportunities more accessible while encouraging young students to see themselves as future scientists, engineers, programmers, and innovators.

Accessible

Activities are designed for young learners and use approachable instructions and accessible materials.

Hands-On

Students learn by building, coding, experimenting, testing ideas, and improving their designs.

Sustainable

Reusable activities and lesson resources allow STEMSpark experiences to continue with future students.

Empowering

STEMSpark builds curiosity and confidence by showing students that they are capable of solving real problems.

OUR IMPACT

Designed for more than one workshop.

STEMSpark creates meaningful STEM experiences for students while providing reusable resources that can continue creating impact.

01

Introduce

Give students an engaging introduction to coding, engineering, robotics, and science.

02

Engage

Transform students from passive learners into active problem-solvers through hands-on challenges.

03

Empower

Help students develop confidence in their ability to understand and create with STEM.

04

Continue

Provide resources that allow STEM activities to continue with future groups of students.

Students completing a hands-on STEM challenge
Hands-On Engineering Students turn ideas into working designs.
Students learning about electrical circuits
Science in Action Concepts become clearer through experimentation.
Students collaborating during STEMSpark
Collaborative Learning Students solve challenges together.

WHAT STUDENTS EXPLORE

STEM is something you do.

Each STEMSpark activity encourages students to investigate a problem, create a solution, and learn through experience.

CODING
</>

Creative Computing

Students explore programming concepts such as sequencing, logic, and interactive design through creative coding challenges.

ENGINEERING

LEGO Engineering

Students design structures, test their strength, identify problems, and improve their designs using the engineering process.

ROBOTICS

Introduction to Robotics

Students discover how programming, movement, mechanisms, and problem-solving work together to create robotic systems.

SCIENCE

Electricity & Circuits

Students experiment with electrical components and discover how a complete circuit allows electricity to flow.

DESIGN

Build, Test, Improve

Students experience the engineering design cycle and learn that unsuccessful attempts are valuable opportunities to improve.

TEAMWORK

Collaborative Challenges

Students communicate ideas, compare approaches, divide responsibilities, and solve problems together.

SUSTAINABILITY

Built to continue after the first session.

STEMSpark was designed as more than a one-time STEM workshop. Activities, presentation decks, and instructional resources can be reused and adapted so future groups of students can continue benefiting from the program.

  • Reusable presentation and activity resources
  • Activities that can be repeated with future groups
  • Reusable or common materials whenever possible
  • Flexible lessons for different ages and group sizes
  • Activities designed to be taught by future volunteers
  • Feedback that can improve future STEMSpark sessions

KEEP THE PROJECT GOING

STEMSpark Activity Resources

These reusable presentation decks provide activities, instructions, and learning resources that can help future students and volunteers continue STEMSpark.

INTERACTIVE CODING

STEMSpark Scratch Projects

Explore interactive coding projects created with Scratch. Open a project to play, experiment, and discover how coding can bring ideas to life.

For future STEMSpark leaders:

These activities are designed to be reused and adapted. Adjust the timing, difficulty, materials, and examples based on the students you are working with.

KEEP THE SPARK GOING

Curiosity grows when students have the opportunity to create.

STEMSpark makes that opportunity easier to share, repeat, and sustain.
